Learn More: Leveraging the Splash Apron

The splash apron acts as a "funnel" to help prevent water loss when it splashes outside of the fountain's designated area. This, in turn, reduces the frequency of refilling the water basin. The splash apron can be installed after the fountain is setup and is most commonly used with the Size XL Sugar Kettle

Tips from the Engineer team:

  • Make sure the ground is sloped back towards the basin and then the splash apron will be able to direct water back to the basin.
  • Make sure the apron overlaps the side of the basin and allows water to return to the basin.

Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • I am looking at a medium sugar kettle fountain, as an anniversary gift for my wife but I cannot run power to the location where she wants it installed. Do you offer a simple solar pump option?

There are no comparable solar pumps that the Engineers would recommend for this Sugar Kettle feature. The Medium kettle requires a pump rated at 7,800 gallons-per-hour, which is nearly impossible to find in a solar pump.  The pump cord for this fountain is 25-feet long, and you can use electrical conduit from a hardware store to bury the pump cord and an extension cord for the length they required. Conduit provides a good option, as we would never recommend burying the cord without protection.

  • Does this kettle have pre-drilled holes for the pump wiring?

Yes, the kettle is pre-drilled to accomodate the tubing and pump cord.  Feel free to reference page 4 of the installation manual for some visuals, and give us a call if we can talk through anything else.

  • What is the 'splash apron'?

Thank you for the question! The splash apron acts as a "funnel" to help prevent water loss when it splashes outside of the fountain's designated area. This, in turn, reduces the frequency of refilling the water basin. The splash apron can be installed after the fountain is setup.

Official Description: the 8-foot sq. apron will help to prevent water loss from your fountain by extending beyond the perimeter of your basin, capturing and returning water that would otherwise end up in the surrounding landscape. You can custom cut and tailor the apron to fit around your fountain(s) and trim any additional that is not needed.
