How deep does this pond need to be?
This kit is designed for 2-feet of depth. Most backyard ecosystem ponds are typically 18–24 inches deep. Maintaining the 2-feet of depth helps regulate temperature and improve overall ecosystem stability.
Do I need a permit to install a pond?
Permit requirements vary by municipality. Smaller residential ponds often do not require permits, but it’s always best to check with your HOA or local building department before excavation.
Can I keep fish in this pond?
Yes, these kits are designed to support a balanced ecosystem and can accommodate fish such as koi or goldfish when installed properly with adequate depth and filtration.
How loud is the waterfall?
Water sound depends on waterfall height and flow rate. The included pump has been a mainstay of the water garden industry for decades and is great for medium to heavy flows and higher head heights.
What maintenance is required?
Routine maintenance includes removing debris, seasonal cleaning, and checking pump and filtration components. When properly installed, ecosystem ponds are designed to be relatively low maintenance.
Will this pond freeze in winter?

- Automatically selected for small/light items delivered in a parcel box by UPS or USPS.
- When ordered with a palletized item, the design team may include it on the pallet if possible so both arrive together.
Upgrade: Threshold / Inside Property – Rates Provided at Checkout
- Same as Standard Shipping, except the carrier will cross your property line (threshold) and lower the pallet outside the first dry area (e.g., garage, covered porch).
- Sometimes referred to as "Top of Driveway."
- Does not include setup, assembly, or disposal of packaging.

I want a 4ft deep pond around 1500- 2000 gallons. Which kit would be appropriate?
Thanks for the question! The Design & Engineer team recommends the PBE1621K: 16'x21' Pond Kit. With a 4' Depth, you can go up to a 10' x 15' Pond which would be approximately 2,800 gallons pond. (Obviously, you could also go smaller in Length and Width to bring the gallons closer to 2,000).
This would be the smallest kit we would recommend for the 4' Depth target. We are using an average depth of 2.5' because we don't have all the details but this is typically what we do for a 4' deep pond.
If you alternately purchased the 11'x16' Kit, the largest pond you could create is 5' x 10' which is only 935 gallons.
